Published Research on Canada’s Methane Emissions

In recent years, academic institutions, government researchers and environmental organizations have used satellite data, direct measurements and other methods to study oil and gas methane emissions to help us better understand where methane is coming from and how much is emitted.  This helps us know where we can target efforts to get the most climate benefits.

These studies routinely find methane levels that are two, three and sometimes four times higher than the amount of methane reported by Canada. They underscore the need for better monitoring and stronger standards to reduce pollution and protect the climate.
